Probabilistic forecasts for DK1 day-ahead electricity prices.

What is the DK1 day-ahead market?

DK1 is the western Danish bidding zone. It has a separate day-ahead price curve from DK2, so a forecast for Denmark needs to identify which zone it covers.

The regular auction gate closes at 12:00 local time on the day before delivery. The coupled market uses 15-minute delivery periods, with prices expressed in EUR/MWh. See the Nord Pool market rules for the market's trading arrangements. Delivery days follow Europe/Copenhagen, including daylight-saving changes: a day contains 92, 96 or 100 quarter-hours.

Why DK1 day-ahead price forecasts matter

Traders need price expectations before submitting auction orders. Battery operators can use forecasts to plan charging and discharging, renewable generators to evaluate expected revenues, and utilities and flexible consumers to plan procurement. Quantiles describe uncertainty around the central forecast so decisions can account for more than one price outcome.

How our forecast works

Telescope Energy provides P10, P50 and P90 forecasts for delivery from D+1 through D+7. Forecast submissions are accepted until 11:55 local time on the day before delivery, five minutes before the regular market gate. Updates depend on incoming model submissions rather than a fixed publication frequency.

Models are evaluated against realized prices for the same bidding zone and delivery intervals. Historical forecasts and actuals support comparisons using your own delivery periods and benchmark.

What drives DK1 day-ahead prices?

Wind generation and electricity demand affect the balance in DK1. Available transmission capacity and prices in connected markets also influence the clearing price. A separate DK1 forecast preserves price differences between the two Danish zones.

Which actual prices are used?

The reference series is the DK1 day-ahead price supplied through Energy-Charts, in EUR/MWh at 15-minute resolution. The data is attributed to Bundesnetzagentur | SMARD.de and licensed under CC BY 4.0. Negative prices are retained. Auction publication delays can delay the availability of actuals.
